Dato’ Dr. Y. C. Lee is the founder and Chairman of LEC. He is also currently the Medical Superintendent of Perak Community Specialist Hospital and a member of the Court of Examiners, College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Malaysia.

Dato’ Dr. Y. C. Lee’s interests lie in cataract and anterior segment surgery and he is also renowned for his surgical innovations in the management of complicated cataracts. He has numerous scientific publications and has contributed book chapters in many reference text books. Dato’ Dr. Y. C. Lee is a fellow of the International Intraocular Implant Club, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and a founder member of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Currently, he is still actively involved in clinical and academic work as he continues to travel widely to share his expertise at numerous international ophthalmic conventions.

Dr. Lee Mun Wai is the Medical Director of LEC. He graduated from the University of Manchester, UK and started his ophthalmology training in 1999. He subsequently went on to complete his training at the Singapore National Eye Centre from 2005 to 2007 and became Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 2009.

His subspecialty of interest is vitreoretinal surgery and he completed fellowship training under the mentorship of Professor Ian Constable at Lions Eye Institute in Perth, Western Australia in 2008. Dr. Lee has always been active in ophthalmic research and has been involved in many clinical trials during his career and has presented his work at numerous conferences nationally as well as internationally. He also has over 20 scientific publications and has contributed several book chapters.

He is a Fellowship trained retinal surgeon proficient in the management of eye conditions such as retinal detachment, age related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, macular holes or pucker and retinal vascular occlusions. He is also well versed with advanced techniques of cataract surgery including intrascleral fixation of intraocular lens implant and multifocal IOL technology as well as Laser Refractive Surgery.

 
 
 
 

Dr. Lim Eng Hock is a Senior Consultant at LEC and has been a vital member of the medical team since 2005. After completing his medical education at Mangalore University, Dr. Lim began his internship in Hospital Ipoh. He was attached there from Jan 1995 to May 1996 following which he was posted as Medical Officer to Hospital Bahagia, Tanjung Rambutan for 3 years. Dr. Lim embarked on his Masters in Ophthalmology studies with Universiti Hospital from June 1999 to Dec 2003. After completing his Masters, he was transferred back to Hospital Ipoh as a Specialist in the Ophthalmology clinic and from 2004 to 2005, he was the Head of the Ophthalmology Department in Hospital Teluk Intan. Currently, Dr. Lim is also a Visiting Consultant at Perak Community Specialist Hospital.

Dr. Lim is a very experienced and competent cataract and anterior segment surgeon and has performed thousands of eye surgeries including cataract surgeries with wavefront, toric and multifocal intraocular lenses, pterygium excision with conjunctival graft using fibrin glue, trabeculectomy surgeries for glaucoma management and is also competen squint surgery and eyelid surgery.

Dr. Ummi Kalsom Mohd Ali is a Senior Consultant with vast clinical and surgical experience in treating a wide range of eye diseases. She is a graduate from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and she joined the HUKM Master Programme in Ophthalmology in 2001 and upon completion in 2005, she became a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Hospital Ipoh.

She has been very active in teaching and was a Lecturer at the Royal Perak College of Medicine and Co-Supervisor for Post Graduate Students in Ophthalmology as well as eye education for Post Basic Medical Assistants and nursing students. She was also a site coordinator for the National Eye Database and Cataract Surgery Registry which is a nationwide data collection programme for the analysis of surgical results in ophthalmology.

Dr. Ummi is a very experienced surgeon and has performed thousands of cataract surgeries as well as pterygium excision with conjunctival graft using fibrin glue. She has performed numerous complicated surgical repairs following injuries and is also competent in trabeculectomy, squint and eyelid surgery. Her special interests are in Medical Retina and Uveitis where she has been in charge of Eye Screening and Laser Treatment for premature babies as well as the Medical Retinal services for the state of Perak. She also has interests in Cornea and External Eye Diseases including Refractive Surgery.

 
 
 

Affiliated Specialists

Orthoptist

Orthoptists are eye care professionals specifically trained in the diagnosis and management of eye movement disorders as well as other associated sensory deficiencies such as squint and amblyopia (lazy eye).

LEC is the only eye specialist centre in Perak which provides orthoptic services. These services which have been available in our Centre since 2006, are provided by Ms Melanie Yeoh who is a graduate of La Trobe University, Melbourne (BA Orthop). Ms Yeoh’s expertise includes the prescription of exercises to coordinate movement and focusing of the eyes, as well as counseling in the use of corrective techniques for eye movement disorders and amblyopia. She is especially keen in working with children.

 

Consultant Anaesthetists

Anaesthetists are specialist doctors who specialize in provoding pain relief and anaesthesia during surgical procedures. In LEC, patients'safety and comfort are of utmost improtance especially during surgeries. As such, although eye surgeries generally require only local (or topical) anaesthesia, an anaesthetist is always present during the entire surgical procedure to ensure that patients are well monitored, comfortable and pain-free. This extra service is unique to surgeries at LEC and we hace a team of very experienced anaesthetists who provide such services to our patients.
